Sony to publish Call of Duty: Black Ops III for PS4, PS3 in Japan

PS4 version due out in Japan on November 6.

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia will publish Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops III for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 in Japan, the company announced.

Previously, Square Enix had handled publishing for the Japanese versions of Call of Duty. But this isn’t a first for Sony. Last year, the company published Activision’s Destiny as a PlayStation platform exclusive in Japan. However, unlike the Destiny announcement, which specifically stated its platform exclusivity in Japan, the Call of Duty announcement does not, suggesting a publisher like Square Enix could bring the Xbox One and PC versions to the region. (Update: Microsoft has since announced it will publish the Xbox One and Xbox 360 versions.)

The PlayStation 4 version will launch in Japan on November 6. The PlayStation 3 version is still to be dated. Unlike the Square Enix releases, which have separate subtitled and Japanese dubbed versions, the Sony release will have both subtitles and dubs on a single disc.

A PlayStation 4 multiplayer beta is planned for this coming Wednesday, August 19, through Sunday, August 23.
