This Chinese Game Console Borrows PS4, Xbox One Designs

A new game console has been revealed that appears to borrow the designs of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

On the Chinese version of Kickstarter right now, you can back a familiar-looking console called "Ouye." As you can see, the console itself appears to be modeled after the PS4, while the controller looks very much like the existing Xbox One pad, but with some alterations. You can see more images in the gallery below.

Kotaku reports that Ouye is an Android-based console developed by a company in Shenzhen. It's described as somewhat more powerful than the similarly named Ouya, which was recently acquired by Razer.

The reported funding target is $15,000, and console is expected to sell for around $70 with one controller. The company behind the Ouye reportedly spent more than a year crafting its "unique design."

"The console has had negative feedback from Chinese netizens because this ripoff is very very blatant," a Kotaku reader said.

At the end of July, China announced that its ban on video game consoles was officially over, following the softening of rules the year prior. China enacted its console ban in 2000, blocking the sale of systems over concerns about potential harm to the physical and mental development of children.
