DirectX 12 Will Boost Performance By 20% On PC And More On Microsoft Xbox One


The developer of Caffeine speaks to Gamezone regarding advantages of DirectX 12 on Xbox One








In an interview with Gamezone, Incandescent Imaging’s Dylan Browne spoke regarding the company’s upcoming game, Caffeine, which will feature DirectX 12 support on both Windows 10 and Xbox One.



Caffeine is a horror game in first person mode, which focuses on solving puzzles and mysteries. The game will be available on Sony Corp.’s (ADR) PlayStation 4, Microsoft Corporation’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) Xbox One, and Windows PC. Caffeine is now being developed with Unreal Engine 4.

Gamezone asked Mr. Browne regarding the changes that he felt while developing a game that runs on Windows 10 PC and Xbox One. He responded that as a member of the DirectX 12 development program, he has witnessed changes that favor gaming by boosting performance on Windows 10 by around 20%, and more on the Xbox One.

“So it definitely boosts the FPS which would allow to increase, especially on Xbox, which is a little more underpowered obviously than you're PS4,” he said. “On Xbox, it might allow me to do things like have the soft chatters that I have on PC which I didn't originally enable when I started to port to Xbox mainly because it was cut out due to performance, but it performs pretty well. I could actually probably enable them on the current build but when I get a Direct X12 build I'll be looking into more ways to up the resolution and things like that.”

Considering frames per second (FPS), consoles normally have a hard time maintaining it with hardware restrictions, which, at times, lowers the quality of graphics.


DirectX 12 support on Xbox One will boost performance of the console on more than one level. With the variety of games that will release on the console, it looks like it will soon catch up with PlayStation 4. Not to mention Xbox 360 backward compatibility; the support will improve the performance of each game played on Xbox One in the future.
