Xbox One could be getting 1,000 extra games

GETTYGAME ON: 1,000 extra titles could be coming to the Xbox One

The firm is about to bring backwards compatibility to the "next-gen" console with old Xbox 360 games.

Ageing hits like Red Dead Redemption, Gears of War and Early FIFA titles are expected to become usable again on the machine when it's software updates in November.

But bosses have revealed they're also keen to see games from the previous machine, the original Xbox released in 2001, eventually coming to backwards compatibility too.

Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox division at Microsoft confirmed his personal support for the idea on Twitter.

“I ask the backwards compatibility team this question a lot”Phil Spencer, Xbox boss

On his official profile someone posed a “silly question” about how much work would be required to make the original Xbox titles backwards compatible.

Spencer said: “I don’t think it’s silly.

"I ask the backwards compatibility team this question a lot.

"Need to finish Xbox 360 backwards compatibility for now.”

If the team does make a breakthrough on older titles it would open up an even bigger library of classic games to play.

And it'll mean the Xbox One will have a huge catalogue advantage over rival PlayStation 4.

The original Xbox was the first video game console offered by an American company after the Atari Jaguar stopped sales in 1996. It reached over 24 million units sold as of May 10, 2006.

Wikipedia lists just under 1,000 games made for for that machine.
