Drop Zone Mode Revealed For Electronic Arts Inc. Star Wars: Battlefront

A new multiplayer mode has been revealed for the upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront

Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:EA) announced a new mode for its highly anticipated game, "Star Wars: Battlefront," today. The new multiplayer map called “Drop Zone” focuses around capturing pods falling down from the sky. It involves two teams and both will have to be on the look-out for incoming pods and initiate a claim process, while also defending the pod from being captured by the opposing force. It’s basically the Empire versus the Rebels, in tight eight-on-eight matches, in locations such as Sullust, Hoth, Endor, Tatooine and others.

The mode requires players to capture five pods or control the majority to win during the ten minute match. If there is a draw and no side is able to take the advantage, then another pod will be sent to break the deadlock. The developers of the game – DICE, wanted to design the mode around constant movement and discourage camping. Orbital strikes can pin-point a player’s location, so there is a risk of dying if you camp at one place for too long. Captured pods will grant players “Power Pickups.” There is a brief time until the pod opens up, while another pod is landing somewhere in the map, and there is also a risk of being struck down by another player if you decide to stay in one place too long.

The mode is the complete opposite of the recently revealed “Squadron” Mode," which focuses on aerial dog fights. The developer has also hinted at the use of droids for strategy. For example, Turrets can be used to ward off incoming enemies or a Viper Droid that highlights enemy movement on the map can also be used.

Star Wars: Battlefront is the next installment in the popular Star Wars Battlefront series. A Sony Corp (NYSE:SNE) PlayStation 4 Limited Edition was announced to celebrate the launch of the game. It is scheduled to release on November 17, for all platforms.
